Teeth whitening at Alinea uses the BriteSmile system, a clinically proven exclusive technology that combines a professional hydrogen peroxide whitening gel with state-of-the-art LED light. The treatment is carried out entirely in the clinic by certified professionals, with no need for trays or at-home treatments. In a single session of around 1 hour, your teeth become up to 8 shades whiter, safely and predictably.

The BriteSmile system
BriteSmile is a clinically tested professional whitening system that uses a high-concentration hydrogen peroxide gel activated by blue LED light of a specific wavelength. The combination of the light and gel powers the oxidation-reduction reaction that breaks down pigment molecules within the enamel, delivering results up to 8 shades whiter in a single session of around 1 hour. The gel formulation includes desensitising agents that minimise discomfort.
Safety and lasting results
Whitening at Alinea is safe when performed by qualified, certified professionals. The BriteSmile gel is formulated to be effective without compromising the integrity of the tooth enamel. Results can last 1 to 3 years, depending on eating habits (coffee, red wine, tea), smoking and oral hygiene routine. To maintain results, we recommend regular hygiene appointments with the GBT protocol.
Who can have whitening treatment?
Whitening is suitable for most adults with healthy teeth and natural colouring. It is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, people under 18, patients with active decay, untreated periodontal disease or extensive restorations on the front teeth (which do not whiten). At Alinea, we carry out a thorough prior assessment to ensure treatment is safe and appropriate, and that expectations are realistic.
At-home vs. professional whitening
Professional in-clinic whitening delivers significantly superior and faster results than over-the-counter products. The gel concentration is higher (and controlled by professionals), LED light activation boosts the effect, and clinical supervision ensures safety. Home products such as whitening strips or abrasive pastes have limited effectiveness and can damage enamel if used incorrectly.

Recording the initial shade. Photographic record and determination of the current tooth shade using the VITA scale.
Gum protection. Application of a protective barrier on the gums to isolate the soft tissues.
Application of the BriteSmile gel. Application of the professional hydrogen peroxide gel to the tooth surface.
LED light activation. Exposure to the BriteSmile blue LED light over 3 cycles of 20 minutes to enhance the whitening action.
Final result. Before-and-after shade comparison with photographic record. Post-treatment instructions.

Does whitening damage teeth?
No. Professional whitening performed at Alinea with the BriteSmile system is safe and does not damage tooth enamel. The products used are formulated to be effective without compromising the tooth structure.
How long do whitening results last?
BriteSmile whitening results typically last 1 to 3 years. To maintain results, we recommend avoiding foods and drinks that stain teeth, not smoking and keeping up regular oral hygiene appointments.
Can I have whitening if I have tooth sensitivity?
At Alinea we assess each case individually. Patients with sensitivity may benefit from prior treatment with desensitising paste and fluoride. The BriteSmile gel is formulated with desensitising agents to minimise discomfort.
How many sessions are needed?
In most cases, a single ~1-hour session is enough for visible results. Patients with very intense discolouration may benefit from a second session after 2-3 weeks.
Do restorations whiten too?
No. Whitening only acts on natural enamel. Restorations, crowns and veneers keep their original colour. If you have restorations on your front teeth, they may need replacing after whitening to match the new shade.
