How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign uses a series of removable, clear aligners custom-made with 3D SmartTrack technology. Each set of aligners gradually moves the teeth to the ideal position programmed in ClinCheck — the simulation software that allows the final result to be visualised before treatment starts. Aligners are changed every 1-2 weeks and should be worn 20-22 hours a day. The Smart Force technology built into the aligners ensures precise, predictable tooth movements.

Invisalign treats a wide range of orthodontic cases, from mild crowding to complex crossbites and overbites. At Alinea, we offer Invisalign Comprehensive (full cases), Invisalign Moderate (medium complexity), Invisalign Lite (mild cases) and Invisalign Teen (adolescents with a compliance indicator). Dr. Cesar Pimentel assesses each case individually and recommends the best option.

Invisalign vs. traditional braces

While both systems are effective, Invisalign offers significant advantages in comfort, aesthetics and practicality. It is removable (making hygiene and eating easier), does not cause sores on the oral mucosa, requires less frequent appointments, and the result is predictable from the outset thanks to the 3D simulation. For cases requiring very specific movements, the orthodontist may recommend fixed braces or a combination of both.

Periodic follow-up. Appointments every 6-8 weeks to monitor progress and deliver new sets of aligners.

Retention. After alignment, fitting of fixed or removable retainers to maintain the result.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

The average Invisalign treatment lasts 12 to 18 months, depending on the complexity of the case. Simpler cases (Lite) can be completed in 6-8 months. At the assessment consultation, we present a treatment plan with the estimated duration and a 3D simulation of the result.

Is Invisalign painful?

Invisalign causes mild discomfort during the first few days with each new aligner, which is normal and indicates that the teeth are moving. This discomfort is significantly less than with traditional braces and typically resolves within 2-3 days.

Can I eat anything with Invisalign?

Yes! One of the great advantages of Invisalign is that the aligners are removable. You can eat whatever you like, simply removing the aligners before meals and brushing your teeth before putting them back in.
