Endodontics at Alinea Premium Oral Care focuses on treating the inside of the tooth, particularly when the dental pulp (nerve) is inflamed, infected or necrotic. We use a high-magnification endodontic microscope (up to 25x), state-of-the-art nickel-titanium rotary files and electronic apex locators for more precise, faster and more comfortable treatment. The goal is always to save the natural tooth, avoiding extraction and the need for implants or prostheses.

When is root canal treatment needed?
Root canal treatment is indicated when the dental pulp is irreversibly inflamed (irreversible pulpitis) or infected (pulp necrosis), usually due to deep decay, dental trauma, fracture or advanced periodontal disease. Common symptoms include intense spontaneous pain or pain on chewing, prolonged sensitivity to heat (lasting more than a few seconds), gum or facial swelling, tooth darkening, a fistula (pus pocket) on the gum, or pain when touched.
Endodontic microscope: maximum precision
At Alinea, endodontics is performed using an operating microscope with up to 25x magnification and coaxial lighting, ensuring the identification and treatment of every canal — including accessory, calcified or curved canals that would be invisible to the naked eye. This technology significantly increases the success rate of treatment, especially in retreatments and complex cases. The microscope also allows for a more conservative preparation, preserving more of the natural tooth structure.
Endodontic retreatment
In rare cases, a previously treated tooth can develop reinfection — due to incomplete bacterial elimination, untreated canals or contamination from an inadequate restoration. In these cases, endodontic retreatment can be performed: removal of the previous filling material, thorough re-cleaning and disinfection of the canals, and a new filling. Microscope-assisted retreatment at Alinea has a high success rate, allowing teeth that would otherwise need to be extracted to be saved.
After treatment: restoration and longevity
After root canal treatment, the tooth should be properly restored — ideally with a zirconia or e.max ceramic crown — to protect it from fracture, as a treated tooth becomes more fragile over time. At Alinea, post-treatment follow-up includes check-up radiographs at 6 and 12 months to verify periapical healing. With proper restoration and good hygiene, a treated tooth can last a lifetime.
Endodontics
Diagnosis. Clinical assessment, pulp vitality tests and periapical radiograph to confirm the diagnosis.
Anaesthesia. Effective local anaesthesia to ensure completely painless treatment.
Rubber dam isolation. Placement of a rubber dam to isolate the tooth and protect against bacteria.
Access and canal cleaning. Opening of the pulp chamber and instrumentation of the canals with rotary files under microscopic magnification.
Filling. Filling of the cleaned and disinfected canals with biocompatible material (gutta-percha).
Final restoration. Referral for restoration with a ceramic crown to protect the tooth and ensure its longevity.

Is root canal treatment painful?
No. Treatment is carried out with effective local anaesthesia that completely eliminates pain. The modern techniques and microscope used at Alinea make the procedure comfortable. Most patients report it feels similar to having a conventional filling.
How long does a root-treated tooth last?
With proper restoration (a ceramic crown) and good oral hygiene, a root-treated tooth can last a lifetime. Regular follow-up with check-up radiographs is important to detect any problems early.
Can a root-treated tooth hurt again?
In rare cases (5-10%), reinfection from residual bacteria or secondary contamination can occur. In these situations, microscope-assisted retreatment can be performed, with a high success rate at Alinea.
Why does the tooth darken after root canal treatment?
Darkening can occur due to by-products of haemoglobin breakdown inside the tooth. At Alinea, we offer internal whitening or aesthetic rehabilitation with a veneer/crown to resolve this and restore natural colour.
How many sessions are needed?
In most cases, treatment is completed in 1 to 2 sessions. More complex cases (retreatments, teeth with multiple calcified canals) may require additional sessions.
